THE
FLEET THAT
DID NOT EXIST |
Excellent
history
of the Asiatic Fleet from Walter Ashe who served in USS Ashville prior to its demise - one of many ships sacrificed to stall the early advances of the Japanese Forces. Read the other notes in this posting on the USS Hancock site. There is much to be learned. Kelley, a grandaughter of the CO of USS Edsall (lost with out a trace) conrtributes moving words here. Also, visit the Asiatic
Fleet, website. A gold mine! |

|
Oldendorf
was CO of USS Houston before being relieved by Capt. Rooks,
in 1941. With some satisfaction of revenge for the Houston,
Oldendorf commanded the Fleet that "Crossed The 'T' " at Suriago
and he commanded from Houston's sister ship Louisville.

.As
the war progressed and supplies and logistics were in place,

USS
Augusta was sister ship to USS Houston. Houston relieved
Augusta As Flagship of the Asiatic Fleet in 1941. There
is an excellent USS
Augusta web site. Some Augusta footage (because they looked
alike) was used in the video about the Houston "Death
Becomes The Ghost".
